CLIENT EDITS
We provide a variety of services within a range of different budgets and seek objectivity above all else. For this reason we offer the chance of not one reader/editor, but two.

Copy Editors check for typos, mistakes in grammar and punctuation, structure and flow: a time consuming endeavour – which is why so few manuscript assessors advertise this service.

THE FIRST FIFTY PAGES (Unless your chapters are very long this covers the First Three Chapters).

A FULL edit of your first fifty pages. We’ll check for correct grammar, punctuation and functionability, as well as consider the introduction of characters, setting and plot elements. (Copy Edit and First Fifty Page Assessment). This gives you the chance to self-edit once you see which elements require revision. Literary agents ask you to submit anywhere up to the first fifty pages when deciding whether to represent you.

CHAPTER EDIT

THE FIRST CHAPTER: In this Copyedit and Manuscript Single-Chapter Assessment, two editors will check your first chapter (up to twenty pages) for the things that turn agents and readers off. This includes big-picture issues like info-dumps and character likability, as well as copy qualms such as typos and wordiness.

ANY SINGLE CHAPTER: Even from what Larkin named the ‘muddle in the middle’. And if we’re honest, we all know what he means.
Either way, have a problem chapter somewhere other than the beginning? Send it to us along with a detailed synopsis of your whole manuscript.

READER REPORT

How will readers react to your story? Do they react in the way you expect? Find out with a reader response from the editors. They’ll read your entire book as if it were a submission being considered for publication and give their honest reactions to the story. This does not include advice, edits, or suggestions for change: these inline comments are simply packed with insight and honesty.

PROOFREADING

Only available for final drafts. Authors make any final amendments to the text during copy-editing, and approve the copy-editor’s changes, so that changes on the proofs can be limited to essential corrections only. The proof stage is the chance for the author, proofreader and copy-editor or proof collator to check that all parts of the book are complete and in the right place, and that any typesetting mistakes or remaining factual errors are corrected. Modern electronic production methods have made it easier to make corrections to proofs. However, there are sound reasons, apart from the cost, for keeping corrections to a minimum at this stage. When authors see their book again, after an interval, and in a new form, they may be tempted to make changes, particularly if there have been new developments in their field; or they may show the proofs to colleagues, who may suggest alterations. If the level of correction results in repagination, any cross-references in the text will be affected, and so will the index, unless it has been compiled using XML tags or some other form of electronic encoding.
